Red Dirt Odyssey

This ‘Boomer-lit’ tale draws on loss and loneliness, friendship and renewal, risk and adventure. It features the dramatic landscapes of Western Australia, its outback towns, coastline and its incomparable Kimberley region.

The novel assembles a diverse cast of characters, each of whom interacts with the landscape to find healing and hope. There is Alice, a widow in search of a new life; Simon a dwarf and renowned landscape photographer; Christian a young shearer driven to self-hatred; Lois, an Anangu health worker, and Bob a refugee from tragedy in Melbourne. There are farmers and shearers, a controversial Catholic bishop, unique outback characters, politicians, and always the landscape itself, a central character in the novel. Against its background many themes in contemporary Australian life are explored.
